Local Salon donates recycled hair clippings to oil spill clean-up efforts

5/26/2010
Many are familiar with the recent and ongoing oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. This BP oil leak is expounding about 210,000 gallons of oil per day, meaning if it continues at this rate it will bypass the Exxon oil spill by Father’s Day. A study discovered recycled hair clippings made into “booms” attract the oil out of the water. These homemade recycled “booms” are dragged across the surface of the water in the Gulf in attempts to clean up oil.
In an effort to help as much as possible, Lorinda’s Salon Spa & Store is recycling all of their hair clippings. They began collecting hair in May, and are excited to see how much they can donate to this cause.
To donate your hair to this cause, schedule a haircut at Lorinda’s! It doesn’t matter if you plan to get a bunch cut off, or just a tiny trim—every bit of hair clippings help.
Lorinda’s is making it easy for the community to donate their hair by offering dramatic savings. Any new guests and guests who have not been into Lorinda’s in a year or more will receive a haircut for only $25.00 when they mention this article upon scheduling.
